Our mission at Colorado Product is to establish Colorado as the epicenter of exceptional product management practice and thought leadership. Our mentorship program supports that mission by connecting people together to foster development and growth. The program brings Product or aspiring Product professionals together to leverage one another’s skills and experience to further develop Colorado’s product management professionals.
We started the program in 2017 as an experiment based on requests from several constituents. The results were overwhelmingly positive and have led us to run the program annually. We seek 25 mentors and mentees each year to work together for the year to enhance their product skills. We’ve found that both the mentors and mentees have learned and grown through the experience and the program has helped further connect the community.
Colorado Product will recruit participants who will provide an explanation of why they want to participate, a brief summary (or link to LinkedIn) about their background and if they desire to be a mentor or mentee. The recruiting takes place through our Slack Channel, Meetup email list and word of mouth. Colorado Product hosts a speed dating night where mentors and mentees meet and decide if they want to team up. If they are paired, the mentor/mentee team will then determine how, when they communicate, and what they want to focus on on together. Colorado Product will periodically check in with teams throughout the year and will also host quarterly roundtable events. During the program, mentors and mentees are invited to host lunches and happy hours to enable further connections and cross-pollination between members.

I joined the Mentorship Program as a mentee and had such a great experience I became a Mentor. The relationship quality I’ve been able to develop with both mentor/ee’s has helped me broaden my career perspective.
I’ve been a mentor in the program since the first year and the value for me has been great. To see the growth and successes of the people I’ve worked with has been amazing, and I have learned a lot in the process. Colorado Product has, and continues to be, a healthy home for me as a product manager.
